Note:
* Puppies of Houston only adopts out Pure Bred Jack

We may or may not know the lineage of the Foster Care Puppies we receive and when we do we will notify you. Only Jack Russell’s that we can verify are adopted out as Purebred.

Adoption Notice:
** The funds received on the Adoption of the Pure Jack Russell and Chi-Jack are how we continue to do what we have done since 1974. New clients and Past Donors’ adoption fees keep the Programs above afloat.

**If the Adoption of a Pure Jack Russell Puppy creates a financial burden, ask a volunteer for financial assistance from a Past Donor. Past Donors are clients that have Adopted Puppies and want to give back. They help with the Adoption Fees of clients that can not afford a Pure Breed Jack Russell Puppy.

** Jack Russell Puppies of Houston do not adopt out to Breeders therefore No Breeding for commercial purposes is allowed on our adoptions and these puppies being adopted out to you are Purebred Jack Russell Terriers.

Therefore, no longer will Registration papers be going with the Pure Bred
Jack Terriers and Chi-Jacks were adopted through this facility.
Registration Papers will be kept on file for 10 years.

** The majority of the Puppies and Adults we receive in the various
The programs above are the result of Breeding, Sale, and Improper care of the Puppies and Adults were mentioned.

Special thanks to the many Volunteers that assisted with the rebuilding of the damaged units in one of our facilities. The Volunteers worked 12-hour days to get the units made ready in time for the many adults we had transferred to us from the county.

Also, special thanks to the Sponsors that make the Donation link work on our websites. We have saved so many pups from being Euthanized because Volunteers went out of their way to get them from different facilities, at a moments notice, to make sure they were not killed or destroyed. Many of these special pups are alive and well at their new forever homes and the ones that may not make it are under the loving care of their Foster Care Providers. Some of which pull through and go to a forever home. So, Donations Help.

Special Notice:

We are a Non-Profit Agency that has been in Houston for many years helping Jack Terriers, both Puppy, and Adult.  Each dollar you donate in the Adoption Process goes to the many pups that we get each month. Since Covid, we have taken in numerous Adults that were abused by many factors, not always people. The Medical bills do not pay themselves.

The purpose of the Adoption of Jack Terriers as Puppies or Adults and now the smaller Breed Chi-Jack is to be able to care for the injured and dying that we have each month. We try very hard to Foster the dying so that, if they do die, they die with someone that loves them. We appreciate the Foster Care Providers in our system very much. So, when we hear that a particular puppy or breed is too expensive, that bothers us. It is Donations, but in this case you are getting an expensive puppy for the donation.

We search the internet to find Like Jack Russells and Chi-Jacks to make sure the fees and/or Donations are fair.

Puppies similar to ours are from $1900 to $2500 each on the internet. Chi-Jacks $1500 to $3000.

So, when we ask $1200 for a Puppy, you know we have checked. If money is an issue, ask a Volunteer for Financial Assistance and we will try to get a Past Donor to help with the Donation.

Adoption Fees Range from $800 to $1200 for Puppies. Adults in one of the Programs above we only ask for whatever Medical we have spent. If we have no medical fees for the Adult, he or she is free.

** The New Breed Chi-Jack is detailed at the bottom of the webpage to assist you in deciding whether that little rascal is your type of Terrier.

When we get Puppies, Adults, or Chi-Jacks in we usually enter the photos on Facebook and then add them here. If you keep an eye out here at the bottom of this page as well as our Facebook page, you will see the newest.  Puppies from Special Breeders come in usually 3 times a year and we try to always have Christmas Puppies.

Christmas time is a great time to get a puppy. We understand that in this economy money is tight and spending trying to budget money for a pup is hard. So, when we have pups that are free, or low cost we add them to Facebook first. The Special Jack Russell Terrier and CHi-Jack puppies we add here. Not all of what we get are added here. That would fill up the Dome Stadium, but we add Special ones here.

We thank you for your support through all these many years and look forward to many Adoptions in the future. If you can afford a donation, let us know through email how you want your donation applied.  Whether is it for Medical, Foster Care, or New Puppies helping the financially disadvantaged, we will do exactly what you ask.  The Donation Button is above.  Thanks For Your Support.

Chi-Jack or Jack Chi Terriers

What does a Chi Jack look like?

Appearances of designer dogs are harder to predict as they can take after both parents, or inherit more from one parent. Typically, they have a stout, muscular body like the Jack Russell, while inheriting the narrow snout, and short, skinny legs of the Chihuahua.

The Chi Jacks’ ears can either be curled over, like a floppy version of the Jack Russell Terrier, or upright and erect like the Chihuahua. Their long tail is quite fluffy and slightly curled near the end.

They have triangular-shaped heads with wide eyes, giving them an alert look.

Size: How big will a Chi Jack get?

The Chi Jack is a small-sized dog that stands about 10 to 15 inches (25 to 38 cm) in height when fully grown, and has a sturdy weight of 8 to 18 pounds (4 to 8 kg).

When taking on the dominant traits of the Chihuahua, you can sometimes get a miniature Chi Jack. This is a rare instance where the puppy’s mother is the Chihuahua in the crossbreeding, but are sometimes called miniature Jack Russells.

Due to their small size, the Jack Russel Chihuahua mix is well-suited for any type of house. They can be just as comfortable on farms as they are with apartment living, provided they get regular exercise.

Are Chi Jack dogs hypoallergenic?

Some say that this fido is considered hypoallergenic, but the truth is they still shed minimally. Their coat is quite short and thick and usually has a two-color combination of black, white, or brown. Although sometimes, there are tri-colored Chi Jack – displaying light and dark brown along with white or black.

A long-haired Chi Jack is also possible if it takes after a Chihuahua parent with long hair.

Temperament: Are Chi Jack dogs aggressive?

Jack Russell & Chihuahua mixes are delicate pets and can get aggressive if they’re threatened or mishandled. Although they’re friendly and playful dogs, it’s best to supervise interactions between a Chi Jack and little children as they have limited tolerance for rough play.

They can easily get hurt and may react if their ear or tail is pulled. As sweet and approachable as this mixed breed is, we recommend them to families with older kids who know how to handle small dogs properly.

If they’re loved and respected, Jack Chi’s are full of love and energy, and enjoy meeting new people, even other furry companions! Watch out if you have small pets, though. If this hybrid inherited the hunting instinct of the Jack Russell, it might start to growl and run after mice, rats, or even snakes.

They may not be known for excessive barking, but they can be vocal when there’s a stranger nearby, so pay attention when your fido starts making noises. The only time that they can get too loud is if they’re left alone for long periods, which can lead to separation anxiety, and eventually, destructive tendencies.

When you’re not at home, or can’t bring your doggo along, provide toys that will entertain him for a while. Maybe some plush animals or treat dispensers can keep him happy while on his own.

This will help in keeping him away from chewing your favorite shoe or pricey furniture whenever he gets bored.

If you have other canine babies, they’ll be great companions for the Chi Jack, especially since they do well with other dogs. You may find this cute because, despite their size, they have a big attitude and will like being the leader of the pack.

After all, its Chihuahua parent is known for having a small dog syndrome, also called “Napoleon Syndrome”.

Another quirk that Chi Jack may get from its Terrier parent is being stubborn. Since they can quickly get bored or excited, it may be challenging to train this fido.

Aside from being a firm alpha, take advantage of their eager-to-please quality so you can nip undesirable traits like this in the bud.

Food / Diet

Like most dogs, the Jack Russell Terrier and Chihuahua cross does best on high-quality dry food for dogs. Kibble will meet their dietary needs because it contains meat-based protein, carbs, and healthy fats in just the right ratio. However, not all dry foods are the same: only premium kibble made from high-grade ingredients will be a good choice for your pup.

Furthermore, the blend you choose should be suitable for their age, size, and activity level. If you are ever uncertain about which food and serving size is right for your dog, then always consult your vet. Not all dogs are the same and even premium kibble recommendations can’t possibly take every factor into consideration for every breed. So, when in doubt, talk to your vet. That’s why you have one, after all.

Even though your Jack Chi might be a picky eater, they usually like their kibble well enough. Once you manage to pick the right flavor, that is. Some experimentation might be necessary to find the right food for your Jack Chi, but don’t give up. Your pup might be picky, but there is a brand out there that they’ll love and that provides the right nutrients.

That said, it’s important quite not to let them overeat, as their petite bodies don’t handle extra weight easily. Health problems could arise if they start to pack on the pounds. So, always stick to recommended serving size and don’t indulge them with too many treats. A good rule of thumb for any dog breed, not just the Jack Chi.

When it comes to training your Jack Chi, prepare to remain patient and consistent, as these dogs may not be easy to train.

Training

When it comes to training your Jack Chi, prepare to remain patient and consistent. Unfortunately, these dogs can be quite stubborn and may not be easy to train. First-time dog owners and those with little experience training dogs may find a Jack Chi difficult, and if you do not properly train and socialize your dog from puppyhood, issues like separation anxiety and spatial aggression could occur.

So, this is a big responsibility that will determine the relationship that you have with your pup for the rest of his life. It’s best to be strict and assertive while focusing on positive reinforcement in order to establish yourself as the pack leader, as this little dog can be pretty tough. However, when you wear down your Jack Chi and train him properly, he will quickly turn into the love of your life. So, the work will be worth it (or at least the cost of hiring a trainer will be worth it, whatever makes the most sense for you).

Weight

A small-sized breed, the Jack Chi weighs between 8 and 18 pounds. Just like the parent breeds – the Chihuahua and the Jack Russel – Jack Chi has a tiny stature. Of course, this means that these dogs will be suitable for a variety of spaces and accommodations. Anything from tiny homes to large and average homes will work for them! All that is important is that they can have plenty of free space to play, rest, and run around.

And besides all that, you will need to provide them with enough time spent outdoors. Balance is key for every dog breed! Take them for long walks or play in the park – no matter how much free space there is at home. Of course, if you own a fenced-in yard, that’s great too – plenty of space there.
